9th Grade
This course takes a medical approach in the study of living things: origins, structures, functions, heredity, growth and development, interactions among, and behavior of living things. Content is built around physiological systems of the body along with cells, genetics, evolution, and ecology. Through a medical approach, emphasis is pllaced on understanding the dynamics of the human body and its interactions with the environment. Concepts and skills are reinforced by a strong emphasis on hands-on medically based experiences, lab activities, and case studies. Utilization of technology is included, as is consideration of the impact of human activity on biological systems.
10th Grade
This course is a standards-based study of fundamental physics concepts, such as measurement, calculation, and graphing in kinematics and dynamics, propagation and conservation of energy and momentum, gravitation and orbital mechanics, heat and thermodynamics, waves, optics, electromagnetic phenomena, and relativity and quantum physics. Emphasis is placed on the utilization of mathematical, analytical, data acquisition, graphical, and communication skills as well as interdisciplinary approaches to discovery. Concepts and skills are reinforced by a strong emphasis on hands-on laboratory experiences and the integration of other branches of science. Applications to society, individuals, and the utilization of technology are included.
11th Grade
This course is a standards-based study, with a focus on medical connections and applications, of fundamental chemical concepts, such as atomic theory and its relation to chemical behavior, chemical bonding, the mole and stoichiometry, molecular kinetics, energy relationships, solution dynamics, acids-bases, equilibrium, organic and biological chemistry, and nuclear interactions. Emphasis is placed on the utilization of mathematical, analytical, data acquisition, and communication skills as well as interdisciplinary approaches to discovery. Concepts and skills are reinforced by a strong emphasis on hands-on laboratory experiences and the integration of other branches of science. Applications to society, individuals, and the utilization of technology are included. Also, in Chemistry 12 Honors, there is a greater emphasis on mathematical formulation of principles, and the application of mathematical interpretation of chemistry concepts.
12th Grade
AP Biology - Elective Class
This course studies the conceptual framework, knowledge, and analytical skills to develop student understanding of the rapidly changing science of biology. The four areas emphasized are molecular and cellular biology; genetics and evolution; organismal and population biology; and laboratory work.
